A Jivamukti Yoga Weekend with Steffi Grube
What is Jivamukti Yoga?
Jivamukti Yoga has a quite long stance in the history of modern yoga.
The founders of Jivamukti, Sharon Gannon and David Life, did want to make a difference when they started to introduce their own format of how to build a yoga class in the 1980s in New York City. They took the ancient Sanskrit scriptures as their first pillar. Every class should include a teaching from the old yoga books like the Yoga Sutra or the Bhagavad Gita. Bhakti, devotion, is their second pillar. Followed by Ahimsa, non-violence, and Nadam, sound or music. Meditation is finally the fifths and last pillar. We will go into detail concerning all these five pillars.
In the 1980s it was new to put those different pillars coming from different schools all together into one class - and it is one reason why modern yoga today is so successful. Because it lives with the integration of different schools and aspects. It owns what works. This workshop will therefore also go into the history of our modern yoga system & takes a look at how and why we practice yoga today.
